Holding corporate actors accountable

Demanding accountability from actors benefitting from financial stimulus package funds for impacts of their actions on the labour and human rights of workers impacted by Covid-19-driven economic crises.

FORGE -Funders Align for Rights in the Global Economy, is a pooled fund that includes Laudes Foundation, Open Societies Foundation, Ford Foundation and Freedom Fund.

Objective:

The main objective of the project is to generate the evidence of the impact of stimulus package in workers lives and livelihood, and advocacy to ensure that the stimulus received by factories are following the conditions established by the Bangladesh government and promote the best practices. This project also aims to address labour rights violations via legal awareness and legal support and also aims to step into the breach to ensure human rights and safety of workers in the workplace as well.

Expected results:
  1. Evidence on the impact of the stimulus package received by the factories documented and disseminated – Collect of information from BGMEA and BKMEA and Bangladesh Bank on factories receiving stimulus and consultation with factory management (who receive stimulus package) to understand practices in retrenchment and layoff.
  2. Labour rights issue in factories receiving stimulus and areas of reform needed in the labour law in pandemic situation, identified and documented– Review of the labour rights violation cases occurring in stimulus receiving package, recommendation formulation
  3. Documentation and acknowledgement of good practices of compliance with labour law in COVID situation- Good practices dissemination through different media, factories following the conditions of the stimulus package and the labour law promoted in national and international fora
  4. Corporate responsibility promoted through dialogues and interactions- Dialogues with BGMEA and DIFE on the evidence gathered on the corporate compliance with the conditions of the stimulus package, legal issues and good practices.
